What are the differences between round-trip and FLEX cars?

Parking guidance

You have a lot going on in your life, and your transportation options should make things easier, not harder. That’s why we offer two complementary carsharing services designed to fit different needs.

So, let’s break down the differences between round-trip and FLEX cars and help you choose the best option for your next trip.

What are round-trip cars?

Perfect for planning ahead for that Christmas concert. They are the reliable original service.

With round-trip cars you can:

  • Book up to 31 days in advance. So, you know the car will be there when you need it.
  • Reserve different models of car. For the different activities in your life.  See available car models here>
  • Decide where the car will be. So, you can select wherever is convenient for you at that time – maybe near home, school, or work

Most round-trip cars park on street, but some have dedicated spaces. You can click on any station in the app and swipe up to see details for that station. Make sure you follow the parking guide anytime you are parking on street.

In short: round-trip is your go-to when you want peace of mind and predictability.

What are FLEX cars?

Ideal for that last minute errand, like forgetting to grab eggnog before your guests arrive.

With FLEX cars you can:

  • Block the car for 30 minutes, with the possibility to extend for an additional 30 minutes, giving you 1 hour total blocking time. Perfect for those last-minute things you can’t plan in advance.
  • End your trip in a different spot than you picked up the car. Making one-way trips easy. Simply follow our parking guide when releasing the car.
  • Not worry about returning the car at a certain time. No one has the car booked after you.

Plus, FLEX cars have some great perks like 20 minutes credit when refueling and up to 15 minutes to clear snow in the winter. See the details here>

Basically, FLEX are a great option when you need flexibility.

When should you choose each service?

These two services are great for different trips! Having access to both of them covers you for just about anything life throws at you.

FLEX cars are marked with an orange car icon in the app, while stations where round-trip cars live are marked in solid green.

In the app you can always see the full legend of icons.

Rates

One difference between these two services can be the cost – though the rates can also be the same depending on your plan and the perks available for your trip.

Round-trip rates

With round-trip cars your hourly and per kilometre rate is determined by which plan you are on.

For example, if you are on Open you pay no monthly fees, but you also pay the most per hour or per day. This plan is perfect for occasional users or those wanting to try carsharing out because there is no commitment.

However, if you are a consistent user it may be worth upgrading and paying a monthly fee to reduce your cost per trip. Find examples comparing the various plans here. Plus the general rates breakdown is here>

FLEX rates

With FLEX cars everyone is on the same rates, regardless of plan, but this is where perks become really important.

On any plan with a membership fee you get access to FLEX vehicles at the round-trip vehicle price if cheaper. Basically, we always apply the best rate your trip is eligible for – automatically. You can view several examples of how FLEX trips are charged here>

Perks & Trip Calculator

Some perks apply to both service types. On any Value plan FLEX and round-trip cars both get access to our long-distance rate. This means you don’t have to worry about taking a trip where you will drive a lot of kilometers. We will discount your per kilometer cost automatically.

If you are ever unsure if you will get a better deal by using a FLEX or round-trip vehicle just use the trip calculator to check!
